Safety Switches

We have a wide range of Safety Switches catering for different currents, different poles and coming in a range of different enclosure materials.

The 3 pole is the standard switch for a three-phase electricity supply; 4-pole also enables you to switch the neutral; 6-pole is used in star-delta applications; and the 8-pole allow for star-delta plus two neutrals. For each of these we offer ratings from 16A to 630A.

And for each of these combinations, we offer enclosures in: ABS and Polycarbonate (KEM series); Steel (KET series); Aluminium (KEA); and Stainless Steel (KER).

Safety first

The key feature of a Safety Switch, however, is SAFETY: why else call them Safety Switches instead of Isolator or Maintenance Switches?

Every enclosure we provide conforms to IP65 or IP66 standard and can be made to IP67 on request. (IP enclosure rating explanation.)

Inside each enclosure are our Load Break Switches which break 8 x the AC23 rating and have been tested and certified for compliance with the relative standards by independent, authorised testing authorities.

Handles

Katko developed and tested a unique safety mechanism which we include on every switch: a tamper-proof interlock system.

The handles for all our switches accept three padlocks and interlock either the door or cover in both the ON position and PADLOCKED OFF position.

The majority of switch manufacturers allow a switch to be padlocked off so it cannot be turned, but this does not interlock the door or cover. So even when padlocked, it is possible to gain access to the switch with a simple screwdriver.

The Katko system makes that sort of access impossible and includes instead a special manual override facility so only an authorised person can gain access, for example in an emergency.
